Glory to God!
I’ve been hearing bits and pieces of Handel’s Messiah all my life. We would sing the Hallelujah Chorus on Easter Sunday at the church I grew up in, and my Dad would play the Glory to God section during our family Christmas pageants for the angel’s appearance to the shepherds.
This year I got a recommendation for a top-notch rendition of the complete oratorio. It was recorded in 1980 at Westminster Abbey. Wow! Until I listened to this, I didn’t realize how many passages from Isaiah 40 are included (beyond the All Flesh Shall See it Together bit that I was familiar with.) I have been memorizing Isaiah 40 this year!
I found this music a wonderful way to anchor my heart and mind into the real meaning of Christmas this December.
