Update
Well, we are all moved in and partly unpacked. The new place is smaller (at least the kitchen/living room) so we are trying to get creative with how to fit everything in. Both BN and I tend to be the “keeper” types – especially when it comes to art/project supplies – so it’s good for us to be forced into a bit of streamlining. It’s a good motivator to get organized, being in a nice new place. It does feel newer, too – it was built in the 90’s rather than say, the late 60’s, so the kitchen cabinets are white melamine rather than dark dirt-colored fake woodgrain. I don’t miss the cottage-cheese ceiling, either! We can see beautiful red maple trees from our front windows (one of which is in the kitchen! yay!) and quite a panorama from the back. In the near distance are the high school and community sports fields… Last Friday was a hard day because we spent all day starting to move stuff over, and we were tired. We went out for dinner and when we got back to the new apartment to check in before going to the old apartment where the bed still was, we realized that the South Eugene High School football games are a lot louder than we expected! It sounded like they were playing in our living room. It was a nasty surprise and we weren’t sure how often they have the games – what if it was every week, or even more often? We were relieved to be told by JT who helped us move on Saturday that they only play about 5 games in the season. Since then, there have been plenty of other sports games and practices going on but none of them are amplified with loudspeakers and large cheering crowds. So that’s good! We will be fine.
And, we are enjoying our new central location. BN can jet to campus and back quickly, allowing him to go home for lunch or back in the late afternoon to visit the Craft Center. We actually walked to campus last night to a restaurant for dinner. Yesterday I walked out of the complex and across the street to the little center that has our local independent coffee shop (I like their wide selection of loose leaf teas) and a funky little health food market… and a bagel place… and a burrito place. So we are all set.
And see that nice, newly-resurfaced track? It’s just over the fence from us. No excuses for not staying fit! 🙂 Notice how flat and level it is…
I finally had a chance to write up a photo-laden post (two actually) about our vacation, to the California Redwoods and to Lassen Volcanic National Park with my family. Click the links or scroll down to view those.
Yay I’m so happy also because of the window in your kitchen, mom told me you wanted that. Is it over the sink? What about the back does it have a little porch like the other apartment? Now I really need to come visit you!
The kitchen window is very small and it’s not over the sink – but I love that it lets plenty of light into the kitchen. the other kitchen was so dark. The back has a window and a glass door, leading out to a little porch. So that’s nice.
Do come visit!
I was thinking it would be cool to go by train
